10 days off in May in Russia!. Главная

And yes, nice to meet you!

A long time ago, when Russia was in the Soviet Union… so stop-stop, too far and boring!

Historically, Russia has a holiday «Peace (or world — I don’t know), Labor, May» and here is my favorite joke: «Only in Russia Labor Day can be celebrated for 10 days in a row»

But look, the scheme is like this. This holiday is celebrated only on May 1st. I know that it is also celebrated in some European countries. So, if your country is also celebrating this holiday, I hope you had a good rest before the working week. Oh, yes, the first of May is Saturday, but not the point! State official day off!

And here's a list of what all Russians are sure to do for these holidays!

  1. Shaliyk (kebab)  — this is very similar to the tradition of barbecue or as I like to call it bibique(BBQ)! You know, we have such a tradition — to go on a picnic or fry meat in the backyard, play games and the whole family gets together. I live in the south, so the meat we cook is especially tasty, I know all the ways to cook meat «like Kavkaz style» and I am ready to write a book about it even now! Believe me, your BBQ cannot be compared with our kebab!
  2. Country house! This is the place that is often bought by the head of the family, the place is located outside the city, there must be a garden and a kailyard (vegetable garden) on the territory. and then for all the holidays the whole family gathers there. Your childhood with your brother passes there, all the corners of the house are explored and one day someone will have an allergy and you will stop going there for the whole summer. Great time indeed!
  3. After these long holidays, it is time for exams at school and university, so this is the last long weekend before the year's exams. And most of the time we spend with textbooks and work, rather than relaxing.
  4. And berries and fruits! At this time of the year, we already have all the years and fruits on the shelves, so this is the most delicious time of the year! I know about the cool thing in Europe and the USA when my friends go to the farm and pick strawberries, raspberries and various berries themselves. Unfortunately, we do not have such a thing, but we have vegetable gardens! As I said earlier, you can grow all the berries in your garden and collect them every spring and summer. Only to be honest, these fruits do not reach the kitchen. They go straight to the mouth right in the garden!

At the usual time (before this year) we celebrated this holiday for three days, then we worked for four days, and then again, a holiday! I'll tell you a secret! These four days between no one worked, everyone took the weekend and left. My family and I traveled a lot this time of year until 2020, eh.

And then a holiday comes: «Victory Day» or «May 9th» or as it is also called «Happy Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War» or as I prefer to call it «Day of Remembrance for those killed in World War II». In Russia, it is celebrated with a special sense of pride and patriotism. I propose to skip the entire part of the policy that is laid down in this holiday, and leave only the bright part of the memory to everyone who fought for the life that we have now.

Every person in Russia on this day wishes a peaceful sky over his head and this is the absolute truth. I'm sure your grandparents told you horrible wars as well. Although it is customary in Russia to separate the Second World War and the Patriotic War, I believe that this is one war. And one great horror of war for all people in the world. Now it seems so far away, but when I see my grandmother, for whom this is not a holiday, but a day that reminds her that she lost her parents at the age of 14, then I feel sad at heart. And at this moment there are no politics, closed borders and different languages. There are only people and their common pain. I wish you a calm and wonderful life in this world, and that we will never know the meaning of the word — war.

So let's get to know each other again! My name is Alina and I am from Russia. And I will share my life in Russia with you. And here are a few myths that are not true. Bears do not walk the streets, but maybe only in Siberia, but this is not certain. We do not drink vodka in glasses. It's not tasty at all. How can you drink it? And the third? And this is a completely different story!

See you sometime tomorrow!
